Last August you may recall me heralding the arrival of wonderful watermelons from Herefordshire.
Well this year the growers, S&A Produce, based in Marden, near Hereford, have added to their repertoire by also growing cantaloupe, galea and charentais melons all of which are about to go on sale in a handful of Tesco stores.
Even better news for S&A is that they’ve just become the first British grower to receive official accreditation for growing melons from Red Tractor – the UK’s leading farm and quality food assurance scheme.
Just as good as any imported melons – canteloupes from Herefordshire
When it comes to growing fruit and veg I can’t think of another country to rival Britain in producing so much world-beating produce.
Our apples, pears, strawberries and cherries are already, arguably, the best in the world because of our near perfect growing climate.
But I believe that now our raspberries could also be added to that list.
British raspberries have been in big demand this summer
OK all you fellow chilli heads out there – prepare yourselves for thermonuclear meltdown.
Britain’s biggest chilli pepper grower, Salvatore Genovese, who grows up to ONE MILLION of the little beauties EACH WEEK has produced his hottest pepper yet.
It’s called the Komodo Dragon and this week it’s going on sale exclusively at 500 Tesco stores across the UK.
